Don't Feed The Pests: How To Make Your Office A Pest-Free Space

Posted on

When you're a small business owner, you need everything about your establishment to be professional. That can't happen if you've got a pest control problem. Pests such as roaches and rodents can spell disaster for your small business. Unfortunately, commercial pest control problems can get out of hand quite quickly if they're not handled properly. One of the best ways to prevent an out-of-control pest problem is to prevent pests in the first place. Here are four effective methods you can use to keep pests out of your office.

Hire a Professional Pest Control Service

If you own a business, and you want to keep pests away, the most important thing you can do is hire a pest control service. You could go around your own office spraying over-the-counter pesticide, but it's not going to be as effective. Not only that, but it's going to waste your valuable time since you, or an employee, will need to do the spraying. Make sure your pest control method is truly effective by hiring a professional to treat your office.

Place All Trash in Heavy-Duty Bags

When it comes to keeping pests out of your office, you've got to think about the trash that you're throwing away. Anything with an odor is going to attract pests, especially roaches and rodents. To make sure your trash isn't inviting a pest infestation, make sure you place it in heavy-duty bags before tossing it in the dumpster or trash cans. It may seem more cost effective to just toss loose trash into the dumpster, but the odors are going to put you at risk for a pest infestation. Reduce that risk by utilizing heavy-duty trash bags. Be sure to tie the bags before placing them in the dumpster or trash cans.

Keep Plumbing in Good Repair

If your office has a problem with leaky pipes or toilets, you need to hire a plumber right away. Roaches and rodents need moisture to survive. If you've got leaks, those pests are going to make a beeline for your office. That goes for your outside sprinkler systems, as well. To keep the pests away, inspect your office – and surrounding area – for leaks. If you find any, have a plumber take care of those repairs as soon as possible.

Clean the Break Room Daily

If you have a break room that your employees use, be sure to clean it at least once a day. Keep crumbs wiped off the tables and counters, and swept off the floors. Wipe up spills from your counters, tables and floors as soon as they occur. Take the trash out at least once a day. Finally, always use a disinfectant cleaner on your counters. The clean smell will help keep the pests away. If your employees regularly eat at their work stations, be sure to have them clean up after each meal.
